Zoid is a 50 minute soundscape or sound sculpture which was
created using over dubs, digital editing, digital synthesis
and sampling by Mike Ellis
and features Chicago trumpet player Jeff
Beer (who can also be heard on the AlphaPocket release
"Chicago Spontaneous Combustion Suite"). This piece
is in tribute to late trumpet great Lester Bowie and the Australian
aboriginal culture. Quicktime will be necessary to listen.
Please be sure you have the latest version.
Our records are now available for purchase as digital downloads

AlphaPocket Records
like many indie record labels was born out of the necessity of
desperation. After 20 years of producing, recording, performing,
and composing heavy music I realized that the phone just wasn't
going start ringing and that I had to take things into my
own hands…if you're not on the corporate roster you
basically don't exist! …of course that's unacceptable!
Welcome to the underground!
...and there are a lot of people who aren't satisfied with
the status quo, and these are people who will dig AlphaPocket.
It's also about a pan-cultural cross-pollination….world
citizens, musicians without borders…it's about promoting
artists who are being ignored and are worthy of wider recognition…it's
about artistic integrity…it's about trying to hear something
you've never heard before…it's about inviting the unexpected.
Just because you don't fit a mold doesn't mean you a misfit,
in fact it probably means you are an original.
Like Duke Ellington said: "There are only two kinds music,
good and bad."
The AphaPocket is located somewhere between the forth and
fifth dimensions…and Jimi Hendrix is often sited in
conversation with Van Gogh, Stravinsky, Bird and Diz.

The
Bahia Band is a project that developed after visiting
Salvador (Bahia) Brazil several times during the recording
and mixing of the Speak in Tones “Subaro”
project (2003-2004). I fell in love with it’s
people and it’s music. I have now come to make
it one of my homes. This band is basically a continuation
of what I’ve been doing along with artists like
Graham Haynes, Brice Wassy, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Antoine
Roney, Steve Coleman, Lonnie Plaxico, Santi DiBriano,
Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Roy Hardgrove, Wallace Roney, Leon
Parker, Sam Newsome, Cassandra Wilson, Gino Sitson,
Elizabeth Kotomonou, Daniel Moreno and Jorge Amorim
for more than 10 years now, which is something I like
to call “World Jazz”.
